good apple contest

my beautiful cousins, victoria and rachel, make the cutest felt ornaments and magnets. they sell them on esty. and they have a blog for their boutique and are having a contest!! and nothing beats a blog contest! and if you go to their blog, and leave them a comment, you could win! but more importantly if you tell them i sent you on over there, i'll get another entry! and i think i should win because i desperately wanted the finger puppets they just made and listed on etsy, and when i went to buy them, they were sold out already! so now i'm super bummed...but winning their blog contest would bring me some cheer. so please, all my 5 readers, go leave a comment on this blog (it ends on friday the 6th). i'll even help you by giving you a suggestion for a comment you could leave: "manda, the coolest blogger i know, sent me here and i would like to be entered to win your contest. your stuff is really cute". feel free to copy & paste, i won't sue you for plagiarism.

these are the finger puppets i wanted. i could have entertained lincoln, malacai and myself for hours on end with these.

these are super cute owl magnets they make. i own three. they are on my fridge and they make me smile every time i go to my fridge.

google game

my most fabulous older sister introduced me to this fun, fun game (i can say that...she's my only older sister...craig & lyx - you better never utter those words...unless they are about me!). anyhow, go to goole, type your first name and 'looks like'. see what comes up, and have yourself a good belly chuckle. here's mine:

manda looks like:
"a large snake with little arms and a dragon's head"
"a 12 year old boy as a gangster from afar"

and what we all know to be true:
"manda looks great, even better than the concept art"

also - i'm extremely proud of myself today because i have saved us $80 a month by canceling our home phone and digital cable (i'll miss you millions of channels that i never watched; and channel guide - i'll miss you even more).

also, also - i melted an entire stick of butter in the microwave today...seems i pressed '99' instead of '9'. oops. (who knew that you could even press 99 and it would start!)

also, also, also - lincoln has started calling me 'mr. mom'. yea, that's right, 'mr. mom'. no idea why. not really liking that, but greatly amused by it.

scary guys and plane crashes

i thought lincoln's creepiness was just a random passing phase...wrong. the other night when i was putting him to bed, he looks over in the corner of his room and says, "scary guy". i looked over my shoulder (with my heart beating wildly, i'll admit) to see nothing; there's not even anything in that corner of his room to look like a scary guy. he then wanted to "hide" under his blankets. he likes me to cover his head completely with the blankets when he gets "snuggie snoo", something he's been doing for a while that i now realize he must be doing to feel safer, poor kid.
then, the other morning when i was changing him right after he got up, he was holding his ear so i asked him what he was doing. he said, "my ear hurts from all the people yelling. in the night people yelling. they're loud. there's noises.". ummm, what??! i am now beginning to believe that sixth sense was a true story.

and speaking of creep-sauce things, here's a little tale of my own experience. when mike went to hungary in september (which i never blogged about, did i? shame on me. he went to do carpentry work on the free methodist budapest ministry center) my mom came over to help out (which was very, very needed since both boys got horribly sick while i was single-parenting it - of course) and brought a book for her book-worm daughter to read, the pilot's wife. i read the blurb and saw that it was about a woman whose husband dies in a plane crash and decided i could not read about a husband dying in a plane crash when my husband was due to be flying in a few days because that would just be taboo or something. so my mom put it on my book shelf for me to read later. i had forgotten about the book until the other day when i noticed it and started reading it...and read it all day long. and then i turned on the news. and saw that there had been a plane crash! so the "miracle on hudson" plane crash happened on the day i read the book that i had refused to read when mike was going to be flying because i didn't want to "jinx" him. creepy, right? (i really didn't don't think stuff like that jinxes people, i just didn't want to be reading about plane crashes because i have an overactive imagination). it was a really good book though, in case you hadn't figured that out by me stating that i read it all day long. and aren't we all so glad that everyone on that plane is alive. go captain sully!

also, i really hate refilling soap dispensers. but i hate bar soap even more. so refill i will.

i just "released" lincoln from yet another time-out. this time for yelling (which is usually what it's for). i always make him say sorry for whatever his offense is; today he said, "sorry for yelling. and sorry for picking my nose." oh goodness, i'm still laughing about it.

love him!

i was going to...

post another exciting post.

but my right hand can barely move because it is so, so cold.

oh why, why can't i live on top of a gas well so i can have free gas and therefore a warm house?!

i think we might have to bump up the thermostat since it's going to be below zero for the next 3 days.

i'm going to burrow under my blankies.

where is manda, where is manda?

here i am, here i am.

i still am blogging. i just took a very long holiday break. i was busy with christmas-y things, like shopping for presents, wrapping presents, opening presents. and buying food, making food, and eating food. and i was busy with new year-y things, like going to family parties, making food, eating food, drinking sparkling grape juice, and not staying up to watch the ball drop. (i think that's the first time ever!). so we had lots of christmas fun this year. (christmas with a toddler=fun, fun, fun). hope yours was just as merry. and today i will leave you with two oh-so-cute videos.

(i love, love, love how lincoln says "christmas"...too cute. and new year is pretty good too. and his thing lately is saying that malacai is his best friend).
